Education Minister Rohit Thakur today chaired a meeting with officials and locals at Jharag Gram Panchayat in Jubbal-Nawar-Kotkhai Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) in Shimla district regarding the Shant Mahayagya, scheduled to be held from December 4 to 6 after a gap of 54 years.

Discussions were held with senior police officers, PWD, Jal Shakti, Electricity and other key departments during which the minister instructed them to ensure proper arrangements in advance and to avoid any last minute issues so that people do not face any inconveniences.

He informed that the Shant Mahayagya was being organised in honour of deity Nageshwar after a span of 54 years. “Nageshwar Devta is one of the principal deities of the Bushahr region and is worshipped by residents of five panchayats.

Thousands of people are expected to attend this Mahayagya. Around 20 deities from the region have also been invited to this event,” he added.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the Panchayat Bhawan constructed at a cost of Rs 35 lakh and the Community Hall built for Rs 18 lakh at Jharag and said that several buildings were being constructed in his constituency to provide better facilities. He also inspected the ongoing construction work of the Primary Health Centre building in Jharag, being built at a cost of Rs 1.87 crore.
