The process to send online applications for the National Panchayat Award-2021 has been started by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar said today that panchayats could apply at http://panchayataward.gov.in till November 15.

The Union Ministry gives awards in four categories to motivate panchayats on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, he maintained.

The awards include Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP), Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP), Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award and Child-Friendly Gram Panchayat Award. Under the DDUPSP, Zila Parishads get cash award of Rs 50 lakh, Panchayat Samitis Rs 25 lakh while Gram Panchayats get Rs 8 lakh per panchayat.

Under the NDRGGSP, Gram Panchayats are rewarded for their outstanding contribution in the field of socio-economic development by involving Gram Sabhas. The Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award (GPDPA) is given to a Gram Panchayat which has developed its GPDP according to the state/UT guidelines.

The Child-Friendly Gram Panchayat Award (CFGPA) is given to the best performing gram panchayat/ village council for adopting child-friendly practices. The minister has appealed to the zila parishads, panchayat samitis and gram panchayats to apply for these awards before the last date.
