Acting promptly on a specific tip-off, the Kangra district police on Wednesday arrested two individuals, including a minor, after seizing 101.91 grams of heroin (chitta) from their possession near the rain shelter at Samella in Kangra district.

Confirming the development, Kangra SP Ashok Rattan said a police team from Kangra police station, under the supervision of senior officers, was carrying out routine checking when it received credible information about the movement of two suspected drug traffickers. Acting swiftly, the team set up a naka near Samella village.

During the operation, the police intercepted a motorcycle (PB08EZ8530) ridden by Gurvinder Singh (24), son of Balwinder Singh, a resident of Patim Multani village in Jagraon tehsil of Ludhiana district. The pillion rider was identified as Kartik (15), son of Monu, resident of Draman village in Chuwadi tehsil in Chamba district.

A thorough search led to the recovery of 101.91 grams of heroin from their possession. Following the seizure, a case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act was registered at the Kangra police station.

SP Rattan said Gurvinder Singh has been taken into custody, while the minor has been dealt with in accordance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The investigation is underway to identify the source, destination and network linked to the contraband.
