Woman, daughter die by drowning in Shimla
The incident takes place when they slipped and drowned while washing clothes near a khud

A mother-daughter duo tragically died after drowning in Kotkhai tehsil's Giri Khud in Shimla district, police here said today.
The deceased have been identified as Kanta Sharma (47) and her daughter Mamta Sharma (30) — residents of Darbar village.

According to the reports, the incident took place when Mamta fell into the khud while washing clothes. Seeing her drowning, Kanta immediately jumped into the khud to rescue her, however, both of them drowned.
Their bodies were later found by Kanta's son and local residents. After all the proceedings, bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Theog Siddharth Sharma confirmed the report and said a case under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 has been registered and further investigation is underway.

He said that the police found no suspicious injury marks on the bodies and that they died due to slipping and drowning.
