Kangra MP Rajiv Bhardwaj has demanded the registration of an FIR and a thorough inquiry into the Manuni Khud flashfloods in Dharamsala that claimed the lives of at least eight labourers.

Bhardwaj, while addressing mediapersons here on Friday, said that the district administration must fix responsibility for the tragedy, which led to the loss of precious lives. “The company executing the power project in the area must be held accountable and made to pay compensation to the families of the deceased, as per the labour laws. We will ensure that the company pays compensation,” he added.

He asked whether the power company had genuinely implemented safety measures during the installation of the project or such protocols merely existed on paper.

Bhardwaj said, “All aspects, including human casualties and environmental damage, must be investigated fairly. I had personally visited the site after the incident and interacted with locals and company officials.

Even if it was a natural disaster, timely precautionary steps by the company could have saved lives.”
