Mumbai woman dies in Shimla after bike collides with tanker

A woman from Maharashtra was killed while her brother sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a tanker on National Highway-5 in Jeori, Shimla district.

The accident occurred on Monday near a petrol pump in Jeori, about 20 km from Rampur. The woman was going with her brother towards Kinnaur district when the mobike was fatally struck by the rear tyre of an oil tanker.

The deceased has been identified as Rachna Sonali (44), wife of Jawahar Sonali and a resident of Greater Mumbai, while the injured has been identified as Chirag Kenima (42) also from Mumbai.

Both were a part of a tourist group that was on its way to Kalpa from Shimla. The group consisted of six motorcycles and two cars.

According to the police, the mishap occurred when the biker tried to overtake a tanker that was turning towards a petrol pump. However, the bike collided with the tanker and fell on the road, resulting in the woman's skull being crushed under the tanker’s tyre.

The police reached the spot as soon as it received the information and rushed the injured to Mahatma Gandhi Medical Services Complex, Khaneri, Rampur, where he is undergoing treatment. The post-mortem examination of the deceased is also being conducted at the same hospital.
