Shimla Municipal corporation removes 18 street vendors from markets

Officials of Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) here today confiscated goods and removed 18 unauthorised street vendors from various markets in the town. As per officials, 10 unauthorised street vendor were removed from Lower Bazaar and eight from Lakkar Bazaar. Officials also confiscated six baby strollers from vendors near the lift.

A team lead by Tehbazari Inspector Jyoti Prakash checked various markets of the town to remove unauthorised street vendors. During inspection, officials found vendors who were selling their products without any proper licence

Prakash said vendors, who had baby strollers, were warned many times. He said today officials confiscated their baby strollers as they did not comply with the directions. He further said most street vendors and hawkers were from other states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Every Sunday, officials of the MC check various markets in the town to nab unauthorised street vendors. At present, the corporation is also working on street vending policy. The civic body has identified vending and non-vending zones in the town and also marked vending zones with blue lines.
