Naggar-Bijli Mahadev road to be expanded, metalled: Minister

KULLU, February 18

Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur today said that the Naggar-Jana-Bijli Mahadev road was being expanded and metalled at a cost of Rs 11 crore.

Thakur, while addressing a public gathering after inaugurating Government Senior Secondary School at remote Jana village in Manali Assembly constituency, said education was a basic need for the all-round development of an individual.

He said the state government was determined to provide education to children on their doorsteps. In the past four years. Thousands of new educational institutions had been opened or upgraded in the state. As many as 14 new schools had been opened in the Manali Assembly constituency alone, he added.

Jana waterfall area to be developed

The waterfall in Jana village attracts a number of tourists and efforts are being made to develop the area for tourism. A 63-KV power transformer is being installed near the waterfall to solve the problem of low voltage in the area. —Govind Singh Thakur, Education minister

He said that now, there are 2,948 higher educational institutions in the state. A grant of Rs 1.14 crore had been approved for the building of Government Senior Secondary School, Jana. Besides, a drinking water scheme to be built at a cost of Rs 2.90 crore was approved for Jana gram panchayat, which is nearing completion. About 1,160 taps had been provided in the gram panchayat under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

He said the country and the state had suffered because of the pandemic in the past two years, but the government ensured that there was no disruption in development works. Several new bridges had been constructed in the Manali Assembly constituency and many new roads had been built to connect hundreds of villages, he added.
