Nahan, February 11
Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Post Graduate College, Nahan, is the oldest and historical college of the state. “Precious pearls” emerging from this college have contributed a lot towards nation building.
This was stated by state Industry, Labour and Employment and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan while addressing a gathering at the college during the felicitation ceremony organised by the alumni association of Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Post Graduate College, Nahan.
He said it was a matter of joy that Nahan College that was started in 1963 was organising its first felicitation ceremony for its alumni after completing 60 years of its establishment. “We are honouring more than 50 ‘precious pearls’ and principals who studied in this college and achieved high positions in their respective fields and laid the foundation of excellence.”
He congratulated the personalities being honoured for their hard work, dedication and selfless spirit of services in nation building which are worthy of emulation. The minister said now complete educational facilities were available at the college, adding that the construction of the building of the college was completed during the tenure of late Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. He stated that more than 3,000 students were studying here.
He inaugurated a girls library at Amar Boarding Hostel and announced Rs 25 lakh to develop it. He said funds would also be made available for the construction of a sports grounds in the college. He also released a souvenir published by the alumni association.
MLA Ajay Solanki said an estimate of Rs 18 crore had been prepared for the construction of the auditorium and multipurpose building of the college, for which budget provision would be made soon. He announced Rs 10 lakh from the MLA fund for the maintenance of the sports ground. On this occasion, prominent alumni of the college, including former Chief Secretary SS Parmar, shared their experiences with the gathering.
Former MLA Ajay Bahadur, members of the Alumni Union Executive, Municipal Council councillor Rakesh Garg, Virendra Pasi, senior vice-president District Congress Committee Narendra Tomar, college professors and students graced the occasion.
