Kumar, who was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Kishtwar of Jammu and Kashmir, was today cremated with full state and military honours at his native village Barnog in Chamyar panchayat of the Nachan Assembly constituency in Mandi district.

Rakesh’s mortal remains arrived at his native village from Nerchowk medical college in Mandi early this morning. The bereaved family members, public representatives, administrative officials, police and military officers and local residents paid their last respects to the martyr to the chants of “Rakesh Kumar Amar Rahe”.

Nachan MLA Vinod Kumar, Balh MLA Inder Singh Gandhi, Mandi APMC Chairman Sanjeev Guleria, former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Lal Thakur, Director of the State Cooperative Committee Lal Singh Kaushal, District Council president Pal Verma, former Congress candidate from Nachan Naresh Chauhan, DIG (Central Region) Soumya Sambasivan, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan, Additional SP Sagar Chander, Balh SDM Smritika Negi along with military officers paid respects to the martyr.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla also expressed condolences to the martyr’s family. Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur visited the bereaved family to express his condolences.
