Rising incidents of harassment and obscene acts against girl students on the Nalagarh national highway bypass have triggered widespread outrage among the student community and local youth.

Agitated college students staged a protest under the banner of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at the Mini Secretariat complex, raising slogans and demanding strict action. They later submitted a memorandum to the SDM and DSP, seeking immediate security measures in the area.

According to the students, for several days, miscreants have been stalking girls on their way to and from college, passing obscene comments and even attempting to block their path. Matters escalated when a middle-aged man allegedly stripped and performed obscene acts in front of them. Despite repeated complaints to college authorities and local police, no concrete action has been taken so far, the protesting students alleged.

In their memorandum to the SDM, the students highlighted that thousands of girl students use the bypass daily, yet the stretch remains highly vulnerable due to lack of surveillance. They pointed out the absence of a police post and CCTV cameras near the college bypass.

DSP Bhisham Thakur said police personnel have already been deployed on the bypass following the complaint. CCTV cameras will also be installed soon, he added. SDM Narendra Ahluwalia assured strict action against the culprits and said student safety will be given top priority.
