‘Nalvari fair showcases Himachal’s rich cultural heritage’
Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani inaugurated the Nalvari fair in Bilaspur, calling it a symbol of Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, folk traditions and social unity. Visiting the fair on its opening day, he emphasised that the event not only upholds tradition but also boosts local businesses, livestock farming, tourism and handicrafts, preserving the unique identity of Bilaspur, formerly known as Kahlur.
“The fair strengthens the local economy while promoting agriculture and livestock farming,” said Dharmani, adding that the state government has launched several schemes to empower women and make them self-reliant.
During his visit, Dharmani also toured a stall set up by the JICA Forestry Project, where he praised the handmade products of self-help groups (SHGs). He noted that these groups are earning a sustainable livelihood by selling items they produce.
At the fair, SHGs under the JICA Forestry Project displayed and sold a variety of locally made products, including Sepu-Badi, Sira-Badi, pickles, mushrooms, and handcrafted bags. These products emerged as the main attractions of the fair, drawing significant interest from visitors.
