A seven-day national integration camp of the NSS, organised by the HP University, has been organised at the MCM DAV College in Kangra. It was inaugurated by Santosh Patial, DIG of Police, North Range, today.

As many as 180 volunteers and their programme officers from Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh are participating in this event.

Santosh Patial said the camp would provide students an opportunity to live in groups and interact with students of other states. This will help the young men and women imbibe the spirit of national integration and communal harmony, he added. The camp aims at providing a common platform to youth from different parts of the country and from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. They can interact with each other, know each other’s customs and lifestyles so that they can work together in community welfare projects.

“By living together in a camp, albeit for a limited period, the young participants will develop a better understanding of various beliefs, faiths and lifestyles, which in turn will strengthen their secular outlook,” he said.

College Principal Baljeet Patial said the activities for seven days would include ‘prabhat feris’, yoga, cultural events, discussions, informal meetings, group discussions, lectures and debates. The camp will close on March 1.
