The third day of the five-day Kangra Valley Carnival christened as ‘The Himachal and Kangra Evening’ was inaugurated by Bhawani Singh Pathania, Deputy Chairman, Planning, Himachal Pradesh. Pathania appreciated the efforts of the district administration in holding the mega event. “The Pahari culture was so vividly ingrained in the lifestyle of people residing in our villages but unfortunately in the last couple of years, it has been replaced by other popular languages. It is time to use Pahari dialects in households,” he said. He emphasised the importance of holding cultural events for showcasing native products made by Self Help Groups.

Bollywood singer Gajendra Verma performs at the winter carnival.

The evening was dedicated to songs that are popular in Kangra district and the state of Himachal. Sunil Rana, a famous singer from Dharamsala, made scintillating performance. Sunil is known for his song collections like Shiv Vivah, Pratha and Parampara. A symbol of soulful melodies integral to the rich cultural heritage of Gaddis, Sunil said, ‘I have a keen desire to preserve and promote the tribal culture which has evolved over generations.’
