Dr Pradeep Bansal, head of Community Medicine at Ner Chowk Medical College in Mandi, died at a private hospital in Chandigarh, on Sunday.

Dr Bansal had tested positive for COVID-19 about 10 days back. His daughter, who too is a doctor and serving in Seraj area of Mandi has also tested positive.

Dr Bansal had a travel history to Patiala, where he had gone on the demise of a relative.

Having stayed in home isolation initially, he was hospitalised in Ner Chowk. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla.

With his condition worsening, he was shifted to a private hospital in Chandigarh, where he breathed his last today.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expresses grief over demise of Dr Bansal and said the state had lost a ‘corona warrior’.
