Come September, residents of Shimla will be able get error-free drinking water supply bills, besides being able to make payments with ease. A new software developed by Suez India company will become functional next month.

The software will replace the current application being used by the Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL), the company that manages the daily drinking water supply in the state capital.

With the new software, people will be able to get all details, including the date and time on which the payment was made. The people will also be able to submit complaints online on the new application. SJPNL AGM (Water) PP Sharma said the new application for water bill payment was in the trial phase. He added that the application will be made available to the people after going through the result of the trial.

At present, the people face inconvenience in paying their water bills due to slow server. They have complained that many times penalties were imposed on them even when they had paid the bills on time.

There are around 35,000 consumers in the town, including 25,000 domestic and 10,000 commercial ones. The SJPNL issues monthly water bills to the consumers at domestic and commercial rates.
