A Dharamsala-based NGO, Kranti, has filed a complaint with the Chief Conservator of Wildlife, North Zone, alleging that red junglefowl, a protected species, was served at a dinner attended by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The incident, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked outrage among environmentalists and wildlife enthusiasts.

According to Dheeraj Mahajan, president of Kranti Organisation, it is shocking that red junglefowl, also known as ‘Jangali Murga’, was served at the dinner. The species is protected under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Mahajan demanded an investigation into the incident and action against those responsible for poaching and consuming the protected species.

The NGO has also demanded that a case be registered against the officials who added red junglefowl to the dinner menu and those who consumed the dish. Mahajan warned that the NGO might move court if the government fails to take action in the matter.

The incident has been condemned by BJP leaders, who have demanded action against those responsible. The party’s general secretary, Trilok Kapoor, and state spokesperson Sanjay Sharma alleged that the incident was a clear violation of the Wildlife Protection Act and demanded that a case be registered against those involved.
