Himalayan Foundation, an NGO focused on youth development and the promotion of art and culture, organised a day-long Ravi Mahotsav at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Chowari, in the Bhatiyat Assembly constituency. The event, inaugurated by noted educationist Ram Bachan, highlighted the significance of folk arts in the lives of Himachal Pradesh’s people. Bachan emphasized the need for collective efforts to preserve and promote folk art, which also supports local artistes.

The programme commenced with Matriya Vandana and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Girl students performed captivating folk cultural items, including the tribal Gaddi folk dance, which enthralled the audience.

Educationist Anita Kumari stressed the importance of conserving Himalayan culture, calling it an invaluable heritage of India. She pointed out that the younger generation is drifting away from cultural traditions due to modern influences and urged the use of visual mediums to reconnect them with their roots.

Participants of the Ravi Mahotsav were honored with certificates and mementos by the NGO in recognition of their efforts. The event reinforced the importance of preserving folk art and culture for future generations. — OC
