The observation were made by the Green Bench in a July 22 order while dismissing a complaint by Kaichana Devi, a resident of Jatoli Jhikli, Lodhwan in Indora area of Kangra regarding illegal mining and felling of trees, adjacent to her house. She had sought intervention of the NGT to prevent this illegal activity as her house was getting endangered due to reckless mining.

The NGT, however, said the issue cannot be addressed in the absence of exact details of the site where this illegal activity is being undertaken. Kaichana had lamented that despite bringing the matter to the notice of local SDM, police and the other local authorities, no action had been taken. She had made the complaint before the NGT on April 2, 2025.

The court said that in case the applicant furnishes the requisite details, the Regional Officer, Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB), Chamba and District Magistrate Chamba may look into the matter and take preventive, punitive, prohibiting and remedial action as may be required in accordance with law.

The court observed that the copy of this order should be forwarded to the concerned officials and requisite compliance be taken.
