The incessant rainfall during the past three days snapped bypass road connectivity, locally known as Temple Road, in Nurpur town on Tuesday morning. The road, which links Pathankot-Mandi National Highway-154 to Nurpur town, suffered massive damage due to subsidence and landslide, forcing the local administration to close it for vehicular traffic. Motorists were asked to take a detour.

The bypass road is vital link for those visiting government offices housed at mini-secretariat building, block development office and judicial courts.

Devotees, who come to pay obeisance at the historical Brijraj Swami Temple, also use this road, which reduces traffic burden on the town market roads.

A number of link roads connecting rural areas was also reported to be damaged and closed for traffic.

Meanwhile, inclement weather and relentless rainfall have disrupted power supply to Nurpur town and some rural areas in the past three days.

Residents endured power outages for long periods, as falling of trees triggered by landslides damaged power lines.

The power supply to areas under Nurpur and Kotla 11 kv feeders remained disrupted from Sunday morning to Monday evening due damage caused by fallen trees.

The incessant rains and shortage of technical field staff in the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd (HPSEBL) have delayed the restoration power supply to the area.

As per Vikas Thakur, Executive Engineer, Electrical Division Nurpur, power lines of 11 kv Nurpur feeder and Kotla feeder were damaged, disrupting the power supply to Nurpur town and Bhadwar electrical section.

The power supply was restored late last evening. “Power supply from 11 kv Nurpur feeder again got snapped after another tree fell on a line at the Niazpur area in Nurpur on Tuesday morning. Besides, some electricity poles in Kutta (Kandwal) 11 kv feeder were damaged on Tuesday causing extensive damage to the supply infrastructure in the Kandwal electrical section. Power board staff are on the job to restore power supply to the area by evening,” the Executive Engineer said.
