Mandi, July 28

The residents of Dadour and Nagchala in Mandi district have urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to construct flyovers on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane road, which passes through both villages.

According to the locals, since the construction of the four-lane road, several accidents have taken place at Nagchala and the Dadour Chowk, resulting in loss of life and property. Therefore, they have urged the NHAI to build flyovers in these villages.

Increase in movement of vehicles

After the construction of the road, the movement of vehicles has increased manifold, and it has become risky for people to cross it. — BR Kaundal, Social Activist

BR Kaundal, a social activist, said the Dadour Chowk connected roads from all sides. One road led to Nerchowk, while the other led to Baggi. Besides, the other two roads led to Mandi and Kiratpur. After the construction of the four-lane road, the movement of vehicles had increased manifold, and it had become risky for people to cross it, he added.

Kaundal said footbridges should also be built on the four-lane road near Daundhi, Bagla, Kanaid and Jadol. He said the road passed through these areas and divided the villages into two parts. Kaundal said the locals had to face inconvenience while crossing the road.

“Our houses are on one side while schools are on the other side of the road. It is extremely risky for children to cross the road,” said Rakesh Kumar, another resident.

Kaundal said that if NHAI officials did not pay heed to their problems, the locals would launch a mass movement against the authority.

Prone to accidents

According to the locals, since the construction of the four-lane Kiratpur-Manali road, several accidents have taken place at Nagchala and the Dadour Chowk, resulting in heavy loss to life and property.
