Nidhi, Yashoverdhan bring yoga laurels to Hamirpur district

Two young yogasana players, Nidhi Dogra and Yashoverdhan Atri, have brought pride to the district by securing medals in national and international-level competitions in the women’s and men’s categories respectively.

Nidhi Dogra, a world record holder in yoga, has been consistently winning accolades over the past five years at state, national, and international levels. Daughter of Satish Kumar, a physical education trainer at a government school in Jandru, Nidhi has shown remarkable dedication to the sport.

She won a silver medal in 2023 and a bronze medal in 2024 in the national-level school games organised by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). She also clinched a bronze medal in the Artistic National Yogasana Competition and represented Himachal Pradesh in the Khelo India Youth Games held in May this year. Her achievements include three gold medals in state-level competitions—Artistic Yogasana, Traditional Yogasana, and the Asmita Khelo India Women’s League. Currently a Class 12 student in the medical stream at Magnet Public School, Nidhi aspires to become a doctor while continuing to pursue her dream of winning international medals for the country.

Yashoverdhan Atri, a Class 11 student at Him Academy Public School, represented India at the 10th Asian Yoga Sports Championship in Singapore in January 2025, where he won a bronze medal in the individual junior category and secured fifth position in the doubles event.

He also earned a bronze medal for Himachal Pradesh at the 49th Junior and Sub-Junior National Yogasana Sports Competition in 2024. In addition, he won gold in the under-19 category at the school state games and was selected for the SGFI Games.

Yashoverdhan also bagged gold and silver medals in the under-18 category at the state-level competition and qualified for the national championship organised by Bharat Yogasana.

He aspires to become an engineer and is determined to master yoga to win more national and international medals. His father, Narender Attri, said yoga is his son’s passion and he will continue to support him fully.
