Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) has introduced a new requirement for building owners in panchayats adjoining Shimla Municipal Corporation: approval from the state’s Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department is now mandatory to obtain a water supply connection. The directive affects areas such as Malyana, Mehli, Sargheen, Chaili, Bhatta Kuffar, Beolia, Dhalli and Bharari, where residents have long demanded access to water connections.

Recently, the SJPNL announced reduced rates for water connections in these areas. While applications are currently open, only those with TCP-approved building maps are eligible to receive water connections. AGM (Water) PP Sharma emphasised the importance of fulfilling TCP requirements, especially for buildings constructed after TCP rules were implemented. “Residents in these panchayats must ensure their buildings meet all TCP standards,” he stated.
