In order to solve the problems of nomad shepherds during the lockdown, the Himachal Pradesh animal husbandry department has launched an action plan to provide them all kinds of relief in Chamba district.

Animal Husbandry Deputy Director Dr Ravi Prakash said here today that transit camps had been set up at Thulel, Kharget, Lahdu, Brangal, Koti, Dunali, Luna and Lakay Wali Mata in the district.

Mobile teams had also been deployed at the entry points from where these shepherds come to the highland pastures during the summer season, he said, adding that free vaccination and medicines to sheep and goats as well as free ration kits to shepherds were being distributed.

He said since April 8, over one lakh sheep and goats in 410 flocks along with around 500 shepherds had entered the district through these transit camps and were on way to their meadows in the hills.

The staff is compiling all details of shepherds and their livestock with a view to help them during the lockdown, said Dr Ravi Prakash.
