An unidentified person has been booked for reportedly creating fake social media accounts and posting inappropriate artificial intelligence (AI)-generated pictures of a Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (HPAS) officer posted in Shimla.

According to police, an unidentified person created multiple fake Facebook accounts in the name of an HPAS officer currently posted as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Urban) in Shimla.

Following this, a complaint was lodged at the New Shimla women’s police station by the SDM. The police have registered a case under sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (2023), and Section 67(A) of the Information Technology Act. Officials said an investigation was underway, and assistance from the cyber-crime cell was being taken.

A police official said the IP address and the sources of the fake profiles were being traced to identify the accused.
