A person has been booked for fraudulently using the name and photograph of Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap on WhatsApp.

In a formal communication to SSP, Shimla, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, the Deputy Commissioner stated that a person operating mobile phone number 84 81 273 9070 had created a WhatsApp profile using his identity. He added that the impersonator was reaching out to individuals, raising concerns of potential harassment, miscommunication and even financial fraud.

Kashyap also submitted a screenshot of the fake WhatsApp profile as well as chat as evidence and requested the police to take immediate action in the matter. He also directed the police to involve the Cyber Cell as well as the authorities concerned to identify the person involved and take appropriate legal and technical action against him.

The SSP said that the police were conducting an investigation into the matter.
