For Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts, the department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain or snowfall on February 27 and 28. There’s also an alert for cold day conditions, thunderstorm and lightning.

With the seasonal precipitation still 65 per cent less than normal, people are looking forward to a good rain and snowfall on these two days. A fresh snowfall and rain will recharge groundwater and natural water sources, reducing the risk of water scarcity during the summer. Horticulturalists and farmers will also benefit a lot from the predicted spell.

The department has issued a warning of possible disruption in essential services, damage to vulnerable structures, poor visibility, etc. The department has asked people to follow traffic advisories issued by the authorities concerned. It has also asked people to avoid going to areas that face water-logging and staying in vulnerable structure. People residing in areas prone to landslides have been asked to remain cautious.
