Outrage in Sundernagar after minor molested; accused held

Outrage has erupted in the Sundernagar area of Mandi district after a 38-year-old man allegedly molested a minor girl on Wednesday. Locals reported that the accused’s Fortuner SUV had been frequently spotted near the court complex and the lake, raising earlier suspicions about his activities. Reports also suggest that the complainant received threats both inside and outside the police station, further fuelling public anger.

BJP spokesperson Ajay Rana condemned the incident, terming it “extremely shameful and unfortunate”. He demanded strict action against the accused, irrespective of his social or political standing and urged the police to conduct an impartial and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the victim.

Rana also called on authorities to verify the identities of outsiders residing in the region and to enhance surveillance in public areas to prevent similar incidents. Emphasising public cooperation, he appealed to citizens to remain vigilant, refrain from spreading rumours and assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order.

According to Mandi SP Sakshi Verma, the accused was arrested on Wednesday. She assured that a fair and thorough investigation is underway and that justice will be delivered as per law.
