Palampur MC wins award for management of legacy waste

The award ceremony was organised in New Delhi on Sunday, marking a proud moment for the hill town.
Under its solid waste management initiatives, the corporation has so far cleared nearly 3,200 MT of legacy waste and sent 1,300 TM of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) to cement plants. This achievement has been hailed as a significant step towards making Palampur a clean and environmentally friendly city.
The corporation has deployed modern technology and equipment in its waste management operations, including trommel machines, organic waste converters and phytoremediation plants.
Mayor Gopal Nag described the recognition as “a result of collective efforts of the citizens and the workforce of the Palampur Municipal Corporation.” Commissioner Ashish Sharma said, “Receiving national recognition for sustainable waste management is a matter of pride and the corporation will continue to work for cleanliness and environmental protection.”
The MC extended gratitude to MLA Ashish Butail, acknowledging his support, guidance and leadership. His efforts were described as crucial in securing this recognition at the national level.
The contribution of the Palampur Environment Protection Forum, NGO Hilldari — funded under Nestlé’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative — all councillors, sanitation workers and the people of Palampur was also specially acknowledged for their active role in the achievement.
