Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal asserted that panchayati raj institutions (PRI) were the base of a robust democracy. Addressing a seminar of the BJP Panchayati Raj Prakoshth at Tauni Devi today, the former CM said when the panchayat is robust the village and the Vidhan Sabha would automatically get strong.

Dhumal said the PRI’s had the most crucial responsibilities as compared to other elected posts. Only the gram panchayat have been entrusted with judicial powers, hence, the pradhans must use them with utmost responsibility, he added.

The former CM pointed that most of development programmes of the Union and the state governments are accomplished through the panchyats.

“Now time has come to make aware the people about the welfare and development programmes executed by the various panchyats,” he said.
