The district BJP observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day at the party office near Una city today. Local MLA Satpal Singh Satti said that India’s Partition in 1947 was unfortunate and that all countrymen should vow to ensure the unity and integrity of the nation at all costs. He added that it was a shame that a country was divided on the basis of religion and personal beliefs.

Satti said that some vested interests were working towards dividing the country on the basis of caste, language, region and religion and the people of India should remain vigilant against such divisive forces. He added that India’s Independence became possible only due to the sacrifices made by lakhs of countrymen, including women and children.

The participants vowed to maintain and promote social unity and harmony, besides working against the forces trying to divide India. A two-minute silence was also observed in the memory of 14 persons, who lost their lives in flashfloods in Una district last Sunday. Former minister Virender Kanwar, former MLAs Rajesh Thakur and Chaitanya Sharma were also present.
