Heena Thakur, a 14-year-old girl who scored 94 per cent marks in matriculation examination conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Board School Education (HPBOSE), got the chance to work as the sub divisional magistrate (SDM) of Kangra for a day. She heard complaints and decided these in consultation with SDM Jatin Lal.

Heena’s father works as a peon in the office of the Kangra SDM. The latter asked him to bring his daughter to his office as he wanted to honour her for her achievement under ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme.

Heena, who figured on the 34th position in the state merit list, visited the SDM office this morning. When Jatin Lal asked her about her dream, she promptly replied that she wanted to be an IAS officer.

This made Jatin Lal offer his chair to Heena for the day.

She attended various meetings as an SDM and heard nearly a dozen complaints and sorted them out, under the guidance of Jatin Lal.

Heena said today’s experience was a dream come true. To hear people and decide their cases at this age was a matter of jubilation and gave her a lot of satisfaction. She thanked Jatin Lal for the opportunity. She said she wanted to do MBBS first and then appear for IAS.
