Physically challenged Sunny Thakur of Khiyuri village in Mandi district was honoured today by Additional District Commissioner Jatin Lal for completing the 2,546-km journey in a tough terrain by driving his own car. An appreciation certificate was given to him by the district administration.

Sunny started his travel from his native village on April 8 and completed the journey at Seri Manch in the town on April 15. His achievement has been recorded in the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.

In a specially designed car, he drove via Mandi, Kullu, Manali, Lahaul Spiti, Zojila Pass, Leh, Khardung la, Kargil and Jammu and Kashmir and returned.

The ADC conferred the honour on Sunny during a felicitation programme held here.

The ADC said this courageous step by Sunny was an inspiration for the disabled people, who were feeling disheartened, considering themselves as incompetent.
