PM Modi’s work aligns with Dr Ambedkar’s vision: Bindal

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, Rajeev Bindal, emphasised the relevance of Dr BR Ambedkar’s vision for India’s Constitution during a district-level programme under the Constitution Gaurav Abhiyan. The event, held on Friday in Rajgarh BJP mandal of Sirmaur district, is part of a series of seminars across all 171 BJP mandals in Himachal Pradesh to honour the legacy of the Constitution and its principal architect, Dr Ambedkar.

Bindal reflected on the Constitution’s 75-year journey, calling it the Amrit Kaal of Indian democracy. “The Constitution was crafted to align with the aspirations of every citizen and has guided the nation’s holistic development. However, it has also faced misuse by certain political parties for personal and party gains,” he remarked.

The BJP president criticised past constitutional amendments under the Congress, claiming they were motivated by political interests rather than public welfare. He highlighted that Dr Ambedkar opposed religion-based reservations and called for a Uniform Civil Code, which he believed would ensure equal rights for all. Bindal accused the Congress of ignoring these principles, creating divisions for electoral gains and undermining democratic values during the Emergency.

In contrast, Bindal praised the BJP-led government’s constitutional reforms, including the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. He noted that these changes, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, align with Dr Ambedkar’s vision of national unity and equality.

Addressing the audience, Bindal expressed disappointment over the Congress’s historical treatment of Dr Ambedkar, including attempts to defeat him in elections and delaying his recognition with the Bharat Ratna. He further criticised the insertion of the words “secular” and “socialist” into the Preamble without parliamentary discussion, calling it a distortion of the Constitution’s original spirit.
