A Kumarhatti resident, Rishabh, was allegedly cheated of Rs 7.2 lakh by a Baddi-based company by failing to install a lift in his under-construction house.

Rishab had lodged a complaint at the Dharmpur police station in August after failing to get his work done despite the lapse of almost a year. In his complaint, he stated that he had contacted the company, Kiel Elevators Private Limited, to install a lift in his under-construction house in Kumarhatti in 2023.

He said the director of the company visited his under-construction premises on October 2,2023, and assured him of doing a good job. Following this assurance, Rishab deposited Rs 1 lakh in the account of Vinod Singh, representing the company, on October 13. On Singh’s demand, another sum of Rs 3 lakh was deposited on December 30 in his account.

Singh kept assuring him that the material for the lift was ready, but as per the terms of the proposal, 90 per cent of the total amount would have to be paid before sending the material. Rishab again transferred Rs 3.20 lakh to his account on February 9, 2024, but thereafter Vinod Singh stopped taking his calls with the intention of cheating him and fled from Baddi.

After failing to contact Singh for months, he approached the police and got a case of cheating registered against him under Section 420 of the IPC.

The Dharampur police, after probing the case through bank transactions, arrested Vinod Kumar Singh (55), a resident of Adalpur village in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh from his native village last evening. His criminal record is also being probed. He was produced before a local court by the police to secure his remand, said SP Solan Gaurav Singh.
