Under the initiative, the state police will provide people with an opportunity to assist police personnel in managing traffic during peak hours, fairs, and festivals. These individuals, who will be known as ‘Traffic Volunteers’, will also help protect schoolchildren and pedestrians from road accidents and actively participate in traffic awareness campaigns. These volunteers will be paid an honorarium of Rs 40 per hour, with a maximum monthly allowance of Rs 4,000, subject to the availability of special grants.

Volunteers will be allowed to serve for a maximum of four hours daily, split into two hours each in the morning and evening, with additional duties during special events and festivals as required.

Ashok Tewari, Director General of Police (DGP), Himachal Pradesh, has stated that this scheme aims to encourage community participation in ensuring safe and smooth traffic flow across the state. He said that road safety and traffic movement across the state will improve with the involvement of the people, who will prove to be great contributors and provide valuable assistance to the police.
