Hamirpur, September 21

Travelling on National Highway-70 between Hamirpur and Awahdevi has become a nightmare for commuters. The road was upgraded to the highway about 20 years ago when Prem Kumar Dhumal was the Chief Minister. Sameerpur, native village of Dhumal, is situated along the highway. However, the road has been in poor condition, especially near Thana Darogan, Tauni Devi, Bari Mandir and Patnaun villages.

Kuldeep Kumar, a resident of Thana Darogan village, said the road was not only full of potholes but also narrow. Even two vehicles could not cross here simultaneously.

Another villager Vidya Devi, who lives in Bari Mandir, said the potholes led to several accidents and two-wheeler riders were the most affected. She said villagers had requested NH officials to repair it, but they had ignored the requests.

Promod Kashyap, Executive Engineer of the NH division, here said the NH-70 would be repaired soon. The contract had been awarded and the contractor was directed to start the work at the earliest.
