Confusion reigns in the town as electricity consumers have received bills of two different amounts and different due dates for payment. The bills uploaded on the internet is an inflated amount as against the one received at home.

Rajeev Kumar of ward number two with consumer ID 100000370791 was issued the bill on October 20 for Rs 1,374 in which the due date for making payment has been mentioned as October 24. He said when he tried to clear his bill through online mode, he was surprised to know that his bill amount was Rs 1,785 and the due date for making cash payment was October 31.

Anil Kumar and Harsh Kumar of the same locality also got the dual bills.

A number of consumers are in a quandary about the genuineness of the bill. As per information, the consumers, whose bills are above Rs 700, have received the inflated online bills. The consumers of Niazpur, Rampuri, Dunga Bazar, Dakki, Lambi Gali, Telephone Exchange and Patriar localities have been issued bi-monthly bills this month.

Prem Kumar, Assistant Engineer, electrical subdivision, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd (HPSEBL) admitted that the problem had come to light in some localities. It had happened due to a software glitch. The issue had been brought to the notice of the IT cell of the HPSEBL at Shimla.
