Power lines from Thirot-Udaipur soon
Mandi, July 30
Tribal Development Minister Ram Lal Markanda said the state government would spend Rs 24.30 crore to lay new power lines from Thirot to Udaipur in Lahaul and Spiti district soon.
He made the announcement while presiding over ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at Udaipur in Lahaul district yesterday. He said the demand of power supply is growing due to increase in tourism activities in the district. The old electricity poles in Lahaul had been replaced and work was going on laying underground power lines.
“An underground power line has been laid from Manali to Lahaul valley via Atal Tunnel. As a result, uninterrupted power supply is available in the valley even in winters. Smart electricity meters will also be installed,” he added.
Markanda also stressed that hydel projects should not be set up at the cost of ecology.
