The followers of Swami Gitanand Ji Maharaj Bhikshu held a Prabhat Pheri in Kullu town to celebrate Gita Jayanti today. The devotees went from Gita Ashram in Ramshila to Raghunath temple in Sultanpur chanting hymns and praises of the Bhagwad Gita. A disciple, Devesh Mishra, said a ‘havan’ was held in the ashram along with recitation of all the 18 chapters of the Gita. He said that a bhandara was also organised on the occasion. The celebrations have been going on for the last 3 days.

Meanwhile, Prof Laxmidhar Behera, Director, IIT Mandi, was the chief guest at the Gita Jayanti celebrations at SVM Senior Secondary School, Mahajan Bazar, Mandi today. He discussed in depth and detail about the importance of the Gita and highlighted its importance from the beginning of life to death. He urged the students and teachers to incorporate the teachings of the Gita in their lives and make it a part of daily life.

The students of the school mesmerised everyone by presenting a programme which include recitation of shlokas, speech competition on Gita, drama, Sanskrit Nati, group singing etc. In the shloka recitation competition, Manya of class IX won the first place, Kartik of class VIII secured the second place and Manav of class IX bagged the third place. In the speech competition, Kumkum of class X was ranked in the first place, Shranya of class IX achieved the second place and Shreya of class 11 got the third place. The chief guest presented mementos and certificates to the winners.
