Pratibha to push for one person, one post

State Congress president Pratibha Singh will push for the implementation of ‘one person, one post’ principle in the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC). “We will talk about it when we sit down to discuss the reconstitution of the HPCC. It’s an important issue and I even have requested individuals holding a post in the government as well as in the party to give up the party post so that it could be given to some other deserving worker,” said Pratibha here today, a day after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) dissolved the entire HPCC, along with its district and block units, yesterday.

She said that the HPCC was dissolved to remove inactive office-bearers and bring in dedicated and energetic people to strengthen the organisation on her and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s recommendations.

She expressed her dislike for a jumbo-sized HPCC, like the one which had been dissolved, and said that she would prefer a smaller but effective state and district executive committees to take on the BJP in the 2027 Assembly elections. “New office-bearers will be appointed in consultation with the Chief Minister and other senior leaders of the party. Broadly, we want individuals, who are willing to devote the maximum possible time to the organisation,” she added.

Pratibha said, “We will look to have more youth, women and individuals from tribal areas in the next set-up. There are many people who have been working for the party for years without any reward.” She had repeatedly demanded the expulsion of “inactive” office-bearers for sometime. The party’s embarrassing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections gave credence to her demand and the AICC finally cracked the whip. “We couldn’t do well in the Lok Sabha elections because some office-bearers did not put in the desired efforts. It discouraged others as well,” she added.
