PRI elections: No change in poll rolls after programme release
In the elections for the Panchayati Raj Institutions scheduled later this year, no changes will be made in the electoral rolls after the State Election Commission releases the election programme.
Earlier, there was a provision for making changes in the electoral rolls up to nine days before the last date of filing of nomination papers. “It has been done to avoid the last-minute rush. Many people keep applying for changes until the last minute,” said a senior official. In other amendment to the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Election) rules, the ZP ward would not transgress the boundaries of a panchayat samiti. Besides, a proposer will not be allowed to propose the names of two individuals for one post, and the proposal once made will not be withdrawn.
