Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at a madrasa run by the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Educational and Welfare Society at Chandred, a remote village in Chamba district. Padma Shri artist Dr Vijay Sharmam, who was the chief guest, unfurled the national flag.

The madrasa is affiliated to the HP Board of School Education and imparting education up to middle standard where around 150 students belonging to ‘gujjar’ community are studying.

Addressing the function, Dr Sharma applauded the efforts of society running the madrasa. He laid emphasis on the importance of education and communal harmony.

Dr Sharma also cleared doubts about the CAA and NRC among the local Muslims.
