Race against rain: Karsog team rescues pregnant woman

Amid torrential rains and blocked roads, the Karsog administration pulled off a midnight rescue that saved the life of a nine-month pregnant woman from Chhatri village in Mandi district.

The 21-year-old, Abhilasha, was battling severe complications, vomiting blood late on Wednesday evening. With roads crippled by landslides, her family carried her for nearly 1.5 km to the nearest road before beginning the desperate journey to Civil Hospital Karsog. At Khandargali, another landslide brought them to a halt, leaving her stranded as her condition worsened.

At 9 pm, the family reached out to Karsog SDM Gaurav Mahajan, who quickly mobilised both medical and relief teams. BMO Dr Gopal Chauhan dispatched an ASHA worker for urgent first aid while an ambulance and a JCB machine were rushed to the site. Villagers sheltered Abhilasha as the road was being cleared, while the medical team remained in constant touch with her family.

By midnight, a narrow passage was carved open, allowing her to be safely shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karsog, where emergency arrangements awaited. Stabilised by doctors, she was later referred to Shimla for advanced care.

Officials confirmed she is now out of danger. The daring rescue reflects how swift coordination and community effort can turn the tide in life-or-death emergencies.
