Rajya Sabha MP and AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajni Patil today urged the Central Government to provide adequate compensation to the state for the losses suffered during the 2023 monsoon disaster.

Rajni, while speaking in the Rajya Sabha, criticised the Centre for its alleged discriminatory attitude towards Himachal. “The state had suffered massive losses and infrastructure damage and lost over 500 lives but the Central Government released only Rs 400 crore out of the Rs 10,000 crore sought by the state government,” she added.

She demanded the release of the remaining amount. She emphasised that playing politics in matters like a natural disaster was unacceptable. She said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had repeatedly raised the issue with the Centre but to no avail. She questioned the functioning of the National Disaster Management Authority and sought compensation for other states as well.
