Hamirpur, November 18

Play ‘Khol Do’ performed by students of Government Degree College, Bilaspur, won the first prize in the 48th youth festival of Himachal Pradesh University that concluded at Gautam Group of Colleges here today. It is written by Pakistani author Aadat Hasan Manto and is one of the famous and controversial stories. It depicts the effects of violence during Partition on people and trauma faced by a girl, Sakina, who was mentally and physically tortured.

Rishabh, who performed the role of Sirajudeen, father of Sakina, was adjudged the best actor of the competition. Priyanka Sarswat of Government College, Mandi, bagged the best actress award for her role of Madhavi in the play that bagged the second position. Gautam College also secured the second position for play ‘Dhruv Swamini’ while Government College, Rampur, got the third position.

In mimicry, the first position went to Government College, Dhaliara, second to Government College, Kullu, while Government College, Seema, was adjudged third.

In mime, Government College, Mandi, got the first position, Government College, Chaura Maidan, second while Government College, Dharamsala, and Government College, Karsog, shared the third spot.

In comedy, Government College, Seema, was adjudged first, Government College, Mandi, second while Gautam College won the third position. Sikandar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, HP University, gave away the awards to the winners.
