He added the initiative aims to establish a new sporting identity for the region’s youth. The first installment of Rs 4.5 crore has already been sanctioned and construction work would commence shortly.
Dharmani said around 12 bigha of land near the Ghumarwin court complex has been officially transferred to the sports department for the project. The complex would feature an indoor stadium, outdoor sports fields, spectator galleries and a modern training centre equipped with advanced facilities, enabling athletes to train in a world-class environment.
He noted the construction of the sports complex would encourage youth from Ghumarwin and neighbouring areas to engage in sports, offering them a platform to showcase their talent at state, national and international levels.
“The state government is committed to empowering youth through education, employment and sports opportunities,” Dharmani said. He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the government is actively constructing sports complexes and indoor stadiums across Himachal Pradesh to promote a sporting culture among young people. These initiatives, he said, will not only nurture sporting interest but also help youth steer clear of drug abuse.
