Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh today laid the foundation stone of the Chaili-Khurd road in Chaili gram panchayat, which is to be widened at the cost of Rs 40 lakh. He said that the state government was ensuring equal development of every panchayat in rural areas and urban regions as well.

The minister, while addressing people, said, “Chaili is a historically significant area that has greatly contributed to the development of Shimla city. Therefore, no effort will be spared in its development.” He added that during the tenure of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, about Rs 36 lakh was sanctioned for this road, but its grading was not properly maintained during construction. “Sections of the road with improper grading will be corrected and the road will be widened up to its endpoint as soon as possible. Bus services will be made available on the route after the road inspection,” he asserted.

Vikramaditya also announced that a budgetary provision would be made for the metalling of the road.

He said that the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) was in the process of purchasing electric buses. “Until these buses are purchased, a private taxi service will be operated between Chaili and the Shimla bus stand to provide transportation services to people throughout the day,” he added.

The minister said that he had recently inspected a sewage treatment plant near Gadaog village and several problems detected earlier had now been rectified. “The Gadaog road will be constructed through the Forest Department, for which all formalities and the gift deed process are being completed,” he added.

He said that a major drinking water scheme was being developed from the Sutlej near Shakaroli village for Shimla. “Once operational, it will ensure an adequate water supply for the capital city. Efforts will also be made to provide drinking water to Chaili panchayat under the same scheme to address local water shortage,” he added.
