Rs 554-crore rural road projects to boost connectivity in Chamba

Detailed project reports (DPRs) to the tune of Rs 554 crore have been submitted to the Union Government for approval to connect 65 habitations with roads under the Phase-IV of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Lok Sabha MP Rajeev Bhardwaj said this while chairing a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) here on Friday. He assured the participants that the projects would be approved soon.

The implementation and progress of various Centrally-sponsored development projects in the district was reviewed at the meeting attended by MLAs Neeraj Nayar (Chamba), Janak Raj (Bharmour) and DS Thakur (Dalhousie). Bhardwaj appreciated the coordinated efforts of the district administration and the heads of various departments in ensuring the effective implementation of government schemes.

Bhardwaj, while reviewing the progress of the Centrally-funded schemes, reiterated the Centre’s commitment to providing all possible assistance for the successful implementation of developmental projects under the Aspirational District Programme.

MLA Neeraj Nayar urged the MP to take up the matter of the opening of a passport office in Chamba, amendment to rules under the Forest Rights Act to facilitate forestland allotment to disaster-affected people and expediting the release of the special relief package announced by the Central Government for disaster-hit areas.

Janak Raj highlighted the need for strengthening electricity supply in remote tribal villages while MLA DS Thakur called for improvement in road connectivity and power infrastructure in the rural areas of his Dalhousie constituency.

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav, Chamba Additional District Magistrate Amit Mehra and Additional DM, Bharmour, Kulbir also attended the meeting.
