Sacked hospital employee threatens indefinite fast

Sunil Kumar (52), whose services as a radiographer (X-ray technician) were termed by the Civil Hospital in February, has threatened to sit on an indefinite fast on the premises of the health institution.

Sunil said despite putting in 12 years at the health institute, his services were terminated in February, rendering him jobless. He was recruited as an outsourced employee through the Rogi Kalyan Samiti.

He has now written to the SDM-cum-chairman of the samiti seeking the restoration of his services. He also threatened to launch an indefinite fast along with his wife and two children if his termination orders were not revoked in a fortnight. The copies of the ultimatum have also been submitted to the Chief Minister, the Deputy Commissioner, the SP and the Kangra Chief Medical Officer.

The state Health Department has handed over the charge of the hospital’s X-ray plant (after digitalisation) to a Pune-based diagnostic centre. It also allowed the deployment of two company’s technicians here.

Sunil said he imparted training to the two outsourced employees of the private company at the hospital. However, the authorities later terminated his services only.

“I have been rendered jobless. I urge CM Jai Ram Thakur to intervene and restore my services,” he said.
